There's far too much real-life horror out there. Fiction would be a nice break.

From your recommendation here, I added some Roald Dahl to my amazon wishlist and I'm excited about reading his work.Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06164619076936332568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19002575.post-88299719081200409792007-06-18T17:09:00.000-05:002007-06-18T17:09:00.000-05:00andrea, I read Helter Skelter years ago. I used to be a huge Stephen King fan, and now I just can't take the stress and anxiety anymore. I like books with humor the best, and about family themes, and books with lots of characters. (However, Russian literature...YIKES...they have so many different names for just one character I just have a hard time keeping up, especially when a novel has a dozen or more characters and each has about a dozen nicknames! Doestevsky gives me frustration.)

I can understand that it would be hard to read with two little ones to care for. I couldn't read like I do now back when our kids were little. Now they are grown and I have time to read more, or any number of other hobbies and interests. It's nice.Stardusthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10560872454564355114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19002575.post-1588850195298228272007-06-18T17:01:00.000-05:002007-06-18T17:01:00.000-05:00I wish I had the attention span to read more than ...I wish I had the attention span to read more than one book at a time, but I just can't do it:) I go through books kinda slowly because I insist on reading and finishing one book at a time, but oh well.

It's extra slow going lately because the baby's naps are changing (and I think he's teething) so I haven't had as much reading time the past week or so. I'm working on "Helter Skelter" right now and that's almost 700 pages. I need a bit of a break from true crime...reading about so much murder is disturbing and I had a pretty bad dream about it the other night.

And, Amazon is like crack to me.Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06164619076936332568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19002575.post-40682032619505471702007-06-18T16:51:00.000-05:002007-06-18T16:51:00.000-05:00andrea, I read some of these authors when I went b...andrea, I read some of these authors when I went back to college for my Masters and wanted to read more of their works. I am an avid reader of the "Books" section of the Chicago Tribune every week, and read the reviews in there. I love Borders, and Amazon and if a book looks good to me, I order it and put it on my "to be read" bookshelf which contains now a couple dozen books I need to catch up on. I read two or three books at a time, swtiching back and forth for variety. I have read that way for years. I try to include classics, current fiction and non-fiction, and also books highly recommended by friends or relatives.

I should be a literary critic and get paid for it...actually, I should be writing more of my own stuff. Oh well! There is so much I like doing that I can't just choose one thing.Stardusthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10560872454564355114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19002575.post-51024606998978777262007-06-18T16:25:00.000-05:002007-06-18T16:25:00.000-05:00Some of your reviews have inspired me to add books...Some of your reviews have inspired me to add books that I might have missed otherwise onto my wishlist, so thanks:)

And I was wondering, how do you choose which books to read and review?Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06164619076936332568noreply@blogger.com
